A lot of people ask how they can be “Number one on Google”. And a few people have asked me because I can build websites. To save myself a few emails, this is the line I’m taking.
It’s good practice for a website to follow good SEO methodologies. That is, the implementation of “Search Engine Optimisation” to active more visitors to websites. Whilst I know most of the tricks and practices, and I’m happy to help out where I can. Sharing what I know and following the advice of Matt Cutts, who is head of Google’s Webspam team. But after all this time, is SEO still relevant?
I had the pleasure of meeting Ben once, he wrote this great article. I love the phrase “personal SEO”, it describes the granularity of Internet. It’s the idea that people are just as visible on the Internet as company is within search results. An individual is worth just as much as an organisation. And it’s all thanks to the Semantic Search Development conducted by Internet search engine companies like Google. This is the technology that makes it possible.
Even if you were not aware, it’s no surprise that Facebook as over taken Google as the primary destination for an on-line user. Here are some stats.
Google is constantly changing the mechanics of search engine results. You’re never going to trick the system into having your company listed the highest in search results. Not unless you want to pay for it. And for me, that’s the way it should be. The Internet is a market place where everyone gets to be heard. The only way to attract more visitors to your site, is to create interesting content. The more the better, after all, that’s the foundation of the Internet.
Secondly. Whilst social network usage is sky high, I’d recommend Social Network Optimisation. To borrow a popular phrase, “fish where the fish are”. This is the nature of modern PR practice.
Also, Geo-social networking is on the rise, this is where you can check into a local area. Your geographical profile may also be important. If your not “number one on Google”, you may well be in your local area. Take a look at foursquare and the way people are using Facebook places.
